Johannesburg - National Education, Health and Allied
Workers' Union (Nehawu) workers in the Free State will march against
privatisation on Wednesday, the union said.
Premier Ace Magashule had promised to reverse most of the
government's outsourced and privatised functions, but provincial departments
were still renewing private service providers' contracts, it said.
"We want the provincial government to outline its plan
on how will it take back the outsourced services," said Nehawu's Maluti
region chairperson Montseng Tsiu.
She said the provincial government should look at ways of
buying out existing contracts.
"We understand it is a process. It cannot be done in a
day, but what plans are in place to undo this?" she asked.
Tsiu said that among the outsourced functions were security
and cleaning services.
The protesters would assemble at Freedom Square in QwaQwa
before marching to Manapo hospital in Phuthaditjhaba to hand over a memorandum
at noon.
