A friend asks: Comrades can someone explain how Indians and Coloureds where affected during the apartheid regime?

My answer is:

The same way the Africans were...

They had to use non-whites toilets, non-whites sections in buses, non-whites beaches, etc.

They were told whites were better than non-whites.

The only difference was that Africans had the worse treatment, and "Coloureds" had a better treatment, and the Indian had an even better treatment. The apartheid architects had to categorise "blacks" so as to divide them. Remember, united we stand, divided we fall. Abo Verwoed knew this so they'd say Indians, you are the superior blacks. "Coloureds", you are the next best blacks.

Even amongst Africans certain treatments would make certain Africans feel better than the others, etc.

"Coloureds" being sell-outs is just an unproven accusation. Sell-outs were present in every group in our soceity and that includes the Africans also. In fact you will learn that there was what was called the "necklace" ko kassie

And the "necklace" was actually an old tyre thrown on or around a neck of an impimpi / sell-out / an informer like a necklace and set alight, killing the alleged sell-out.

The history of the struggle shows that even "Coloured" people fought against discrimination.

You will notice that I put the term "Coloured/s" in inverted commas because I regard the term to be an insult to the African and Cape Malay people. The Cape Malay, Mixed-raced Africans, and Khoisan, etc. were all called "Coloureds". The term was created to categorise and "box" people so that they were easy to "manage".

Until this day you still see the effects of Apartheid in South Africa.

1. You still find whites (or European-Africans as I call them) who think they are superior and better that non-whites (or Africans and Indian-Africans).

2. You still find Indian-Africans (Indians) who still believe they are better than indigenous Africans and Cape Malay (what we call Africans and Coloureds).

3. You still find Africans who see a superior beings when the see European-Africans (whites), Indian-Africans (Indians), and Cape Malay (Coloureds)because they we psychologically made to believe this.

Apartheid is on auto-pilot! It's working long after Verwoed and his gang are gone! Internalised oppression is in effect!!

I could write 5 pages or 50 pages on this matter. Or even 500 pages!!

DA congratulates ANC on centenary

Johannesburg - Democratic Alliance leader Helen Zille on Saturday congratulated the African National Congress on its centenarary event. "I extend my sincere congratulations to the African National Congress (ANC) and its leader, President Zuma, on reaching this impressive milestone," Zille said in a statement.


"These 100 years show an extraordinary record, without parallel on the continent of Africa. If the ANC is saying this is much more than a celebration of the 100th birthday of a political party, we agree.


"It represents a history of progress, a quest for human rights and the advent of democracy after a long, arduous struggle that took over 80 years," she added.

She said the values espoused by the father of the new South Africa, Nelson Mandela, still resonated strongly with the people of South Africa and his humane, non-racial vision of equality for all under a democratic system led the country out of the dark days of repression and put it firmly on the path to freedom.

However, the centenary event also called for introspection and reflection as without the values articulated by Nelson Mandela, the ANC also risked becoming a rudderless vessel, Zille warned.

Former #Cope MP Phillip Dexter rejoins #ANC

Cape Town - Former Cope spokesperson and MP Phillip Dexter has rejoined the ANC, he said on Tuesday. Dexter, who was a fierce critic of the ruling party during his time with the Congress of the People, said he broke the news to Cope leader Mosiua Lekota on Tuesday morning.

"I had a conversation with Mr Lekota this morning," he said.

"He was very good about it. What he said remains between us, but I can honestly say it wasn't a bad conversation."

Dexter said he was prepared to answer for any criticism he had of the ANC in the past.

"I still think there are challenges and problems in the ANC. But I am prepared to answer for everything I have said in the past."

Cope was formed by former ANC members Mosiuoa Lekota and Mbhazima Shilowa in 2008 in the wake of the resignation of former president Thabo Mbeki during a split in party support for Mbeki and President Jacob Zuma.

Cope has been wracked with infighting between Lekota and Shilowa and their respective factions and has seen its support dwindle after it won around eight percent of the vote in the 2009 national election.
